Education Diplomacy of China and India in Africa from the beginning of the twenty-first century to the present

Abstract:

Education is one of the areas where China and India are jostling for influence in Africa. Both countries are increasing their aid to education and the period from the beginning of the 21st century to the present has marked China and India's strong imprints in the education systems of the countries in this continent. The article describes China's educational diplomacy through cultural institutes; the country's emergence as a study destination for African students and its support for capacity building in the education sector by its governments. The article also clarifies India's educational interests and initiatives in Africa and evaluates the benefits of increasing "South-South" cooperation with the continent. In the process of analysis, the article presents the similarities and differences in the educational diplomacy of China and India in Africa, pointing out the fierce competition between the two countries in the field of education. education as well as an assessment of the benefits and consequences that African countries can derive from these activities.
