Higher Education Reforming in South Africa

Abstract:

Education reform is an urgent need of modern society, so each country chooses for itself a certain model or method of education with the goal of changing outdated education which is no longer suitable. Historically, educational reforms took different forms because the motivations of reformers differed. South Africa is considered the country that invests the most in education compared to African countries, but the quality of education is ranked low in the continent, black people are still disadvantaged in the field of education, especially higher education. The article discusses the following main topics: an overview of higher education in South Africa before the fall of the Apartheid regime in 1993. Next is some specific content of higher education reform of a democratic society such as: teaching and learning program; language of instruction; financial investment (public finance). Finally, the article makes some comments on the above reforms in order to highlight the advantages and disadvantages of higher education after the collapse of the Apartheid regime.
